But Aoyama, a family-owned gem on the Scarborough-North York border that opened in 2007 next to a KFC in a plaza behind a thrift shop, is a place where diners can get a taste of sushi master Masashige Endo’s seven-course set dinner for less than $100. Rarely are the words omakase and affordable found in the same sentence, as prices for this type of Japanese dining typically start in the triple digits in the city.
